The makers of Shattered Horizon bought by the studio behind Angry Birds.
In surprising news, Finnish juggernaut Rovio has announced that they’ve acquired their fellow countrymen Futuremark Games Studio.
“I am proud to see the potential of our talented games team recognized by Rovio,” said Jukka Mäkinen, Futuremark CEO.
“Futuremark will now focus on supporting gamers and industry with 3DMark, our professional grade benchmark which, in a new version to be released later this year, will allow unified gaming performance comparison across operating systems and form factors for the first time.”
Unfortunately the exact cost of this “acquisition” hasn’t been revealed but with Angry Birds Space currently topping the iOS charts, it’s fair to say Rovio aren’t short a few bob.
Interestingly it seems Futuremark will remain largely autonomous within Rovio, with rights to Shattered Horizon, Hungribles and Unstoppable Gorg being retained by their original owners.
We’re unsure what to make of Futuremark’s new owners if we honest, but we hope they’re willing to offer up enough capital to ensure more ambitious titles like the criminally ignored Shattered Horizon make their way to market.
