Relic Entertainment back at the helm with a brand new engine.
THQ has officially unveiled Company of Heroes 2, after the RTS sequel was outed by a leaked PC Gamer cover last week.
As reported the second game in the series will take play on the Eastern Front with players taking command of the Red Army as they repel Nazi invaders from Russia.
“Company of Heroes 2 is a true successor, introducing a new front, new protagonists and new technology while retaining the unique mix of strategic gameplay and competitive multiplayer that made the original Company of Heroes such a success,” revealed Relic Entertainment’s producer at large, Greg Wilson.
Most importantly however is confirmation that Company of Heroes 2 will utilise a new proprietary engine, dubbed Essence 3.0. Footage of this new technology in action has yet to be made public, but according to a statement from THQ it promises, “increased graphical fidelity and new environmental destruction.”
A post on the official website for Company of Heroes 2 goes into more detail with a new take on fog of war dynamics and the return of Commander Abilities fundamentally shifting the balance of war.
The world has been crying out for a sequel in this RTS franchise for literally years and we’re very glad Relic Entertainment has finally picked up the challenge.
We can’t wait to learn more!
