Fight!

In a refreshing act of generosity, Capcom has released a new downloadable game for free on PC to mark the Mega Man franchise celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary today.

Street Fighter X Mega Man is available exclusively on PC via the Capcom Unity blog, but the client should work for the most basic of systems and for a freebie nobody can really complain. Despite the cute 8-bit looking platformer only clocking in at 33.8mb it will take a while to download, due to Capcom’s servers currently being inundated with demand.

Here’s a short blurb describing exactly what this free game is all about:

“A true collaboration between Capcom and its fans for Mega Man’s and Street Fighter’s 25th Anniversary, Street Fighter™ X Mega Man™ was created and developed by Singapore native Seow Zong Hui (aka “Sonic”), with an original soundtrack by Luke Esquivel (aka “A_Rival”) and with support provided by Capcom. Street Fighter™ X Mega Man™ stars the Blue Bomber as he goes toe-to-toe with some of Street Fighter’s most beloved characters complete with their own individual themed stages and boss battles. Jump, shoot, and use your special new Street Fighter abilities to defeat your foes and become the world’s strongest robot!”

Now we’ve never been a fan of Mega Man specifically, but even we have to admit this crossover is pretty cool. Crossovers are still relatively rare in the games industry and seeing Mega Man take on the likes of Blanka, Ryu and Dhalsim is the kind of event no self-respecting gamer should miss seeing for themselves.

Who said Christmas never comes early?
