The Games Developer Conference kicks off tomorrow and even though it is traditionally a platform for developers to discuss their trade, there's no doubt that a lot of new game info will be unveiled. We countdown the five biggest titles we'd most like to see:
5. Split/Second
Black Rock Studios will be presenting multiple forums on development issues at GDC, but that doesn't mean they won't have time to spill the beans on Disney Interactive's fastest franchise. With the May 18th release date just around the corner, this will be the last chance for the racer to make a big impact on the gaming scene. Fingers crossed they'll show us more than just the airport level.
4. Fable 3
What would GDC be without Lionhead's talkative and lovely leader? With Fable 3 and Natal on the horizon expect Mr Molyneux to make some promising yet cryptic statements about his studio's next AAA title. We already know that in this chapter you play as the king of Albion controlling the fate of the entire kingdom, everything else however is still under wraps. All we hope is that players will be able to recruit a canine companion once again and that the henchman based co-op is supported by a 'man's best friend' option.
John Carmack, the co-founder of id Software, will receive the lifetime achievement award at the annual GDC awards and what better time to pimp the legend's past which includes Wolfenstein and Quake, as well as look towards the future. Not much is known about the next chapter in the Doom series which the developer has explained is not a reboot or a sequel, so what exactly is it? Who knows, but we're sure to find out more.
2. Little Big Planet 2
Sony are teasing something massive and it would have to be huge considering they are the only console manufacturer with a substantial presence at GDC, albeit off-site. Media Molecule previously stated they had no plans for another chapter in the series, but with the continued success of DLC and Sony's acquisition of the British developer perhaps a sequel is on the cards.
1. Portal 2
The biggest news of last week wasn't Infinity Ward's spat with Activision or Ubisoft's DRM policy, but Valve teasing and prodding the internet until the existence of this sequel became undeniable. So far Game Informer have listed new features including co-op and a new storyline, but it would be great to hear all this from the developer themselves. The smart money is on Valve releasing an instructional teaser trailer with a similar art style to the original's, hopefully narrated by GlaDOS 2.0.
