A Little Bit World -
The first selection this week is a great three minute video produced by a pair of brothers for university and features some of video games’ most beloved characters moving into the real world. Unsurprisingly Nintendo have a big presence in the transition, but keep an eye out for the more understated icons, like Lemmings, in the mix. Not only that, but the soundtrack is also brilliantly catchy.
Game Deaths –
The next video shows how such a simple concept can inspire feelings of nostalgia and an odd sense of disappointment when looking at certain titles from gaming’s past. This video from Boing Boing shows unfortunate death animations from dozens of classic games from the 16-bit era and earlier. It shows just how far our medium has gone and how surprisingly brutal some old games actually were. Did Outrun really have a Ferrari Testarossa which threw its passengers from the car when it crashed? Apparently so.
EVE: A Future Vision –
This week EVE Online Fanfest 2011 came and went, and even though there was plenty of noteworthy news concerning all things EVE, the most intriguing development was a short concept video which showed where Icelandic developer CCP want the series to go in the future. How exactly these lofty themes of morality would factor into the subscription-based MMO EVE Online and future console spin-off Dust 514 remains to be seen, but it’s a fascinating watch nonetheless.
As always all of the links for this week’s selections can be found on the right and if you find something worthy of this spotlight on your internet travels don’t hesitate to share it with us by sending an email to pcgzine@gamerzines.com
