SomethingSunday IAmA Edition

Published on April 10th, 2011

For this week’s Something for Sunday we’re paying special tribute to one of Reddit’s most amazing channels, IamA.

The basic idea is simple, people post interesting facts about themselves and any user can then ask them any question they wish. Astronauts, physicists, politicians, race drivers, fireman, you name it, all have featured in this amazing subreddit at one time or another and this week two of gaming’s more fascinating characters stepped up to the plate. Think of them as interviews, but rather then us stuffy journalists asking questions, it’s you!

- IAmA: Markus Persson, creator of -

Indie game developers tend to be very clever fellows and as expected this thread proved to be fascinating when Notch opened himself up to the process of being asked both relevant and random questions from fans. Readers will find out just how much money he’s made from Minecraft, what he thinks about current PC trends and much, much more. Gleaming interesting information from these long pages can be hard, but it’s certainly worth the effort.

- IamA: Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw, aka Zero Punctuation

Known as gaming’s most harshest critic, this thread contains all the information you need to know about how Yahtzee produces his very successful video reviews for The Escapist, how he got started and what he believes are the real problems with the games industry. His replies to questions are just as harsh as his critiques and best of all this thread only started on Friday, so there’s still plenty of time to have your questions answered.

For the rest of this weekly appreciation-fest we have some brilliant YouTube videos which are both great and silly in equal measure:

- Two Guys, One Game:

The joys of Dead Rising only really appeal to a specific type of gamer, but when two individuals with the same sort of tastes play the sequel in co-op hilarity inevitably ensues. Aside from some foul language and the appearance of a certain piece of ‘equipment’ which could be considered too raw for a Sunday, this video will not only cause you to chuckle but it also may inspire you to play more games with your mates. Great stuff!

- GTA IV Hard Charger: Wide Open

Okay, so strictly speaking this video didn’t appear over the last 168 hours, but who cares! Somehow we only witnessed this amazing piece of machinima this week, even though it first appeared on YouTube over a month ago and has attracted nearly 250,000 views, but it completely bowled us over. Hard Charger involves a regular occurrence in Rockstar’s series – a car chase with police in tow – but none have been captured in a manner as spectacular as this. Don’t be put off by the long-running time and watch this epic production now!

As always the links for all these selections can be found on the right and if you discover anything worthy of this weekly spotlight on your internet travels please email pcgzine@gamerzines.com.
