Between one developer diary and Ncsoft slowly pulling the curtain back a little bit further on Guild Wars 2, this week’s Something for Sunday revolves around fan dedication to their favourite game experiences. Honestly it’s all been by accident but with developers and publishers busy preparing for gamescom next week not a lot is going on, so it’s best if we just get on with things.
RAGE: Making of Art and Sound -
If there’s one actor we have the utmost of respect for it’s John Goodman. What do you mean who? The Big Lebowski, The Flintstones, Monsters, Inc. are just a few of his hits and surprisingly now the big man is getting involved with games, namely RAGE. His role as Dan Hager is just one of the revelations in this developer diary from id and it’s a must watch for anyone who wonders what the Texan developer has been up to for the past five years.
This mod for Half Life 2 has become a haven for gamers who just want to be silly for a couple of hours and this video represents that potential when those actions are multiplied by twenty-two people and the results are hilarious. These guys have got griefing down to a fine art and the accents on offer are a delight! You’ll never find out where the nearest train station is, but this is sure to brighten up your Sunday.
A lot of hope is riding on Guild Wars 2 transforming the MMO landscape and with creativity like this on show it’s no mystery why. The Sylvari is the final race to be revealed in ArenaNet’s sequel, and the plant pod-people are unlike anything the fantasy genre has seen before. This video features interviews from the key talent on the project and plenty of beautiful in-game footage.
Our final selection this week includes a very impressive Wheatley puppet with supporting quotes from Portal 2. Summing this creation up in ten words or less doesn’t really do it justice, so do yourself a favour and check it out the video. Best of all its construction has been catalogued in a blog piece written by its creator and the steps taken are a prime example of fan dedication at its most ingenious.
All of the links for this week’s selections are shown above and to the right.
If you see anything worthy of a mention in this feature on your internet travels, be sure to send an email to pcgzine@cranberrypublishing.com describing your selection and we’ll give you a shout out to recognise your contribution.
See you next week…
