San Diego’s Comic-Con is one of our favourite game shows of the year, even though it isn’t really focused on games. Publishers know that if you’re interested in illustrated characters the likelihood is you probably have a soft spot for games as well and as a result a lot of great video content gets released. Let’s take a look at the highlights…
It’s only fitting that during the same week the first trailer for Dark Knight Rises was released, Rocksteady has confirmed that Batman’s nemesis Penguin will feature in his next interactive adventure. As you might expect the UK studio has put their own spin on the diminutive madman and we’re looking forward to seeing more come Arkham City’s release in October.
Now this video isn’t technically linked with Comic-Con, but we had to feature it in this week’s Something for Sunday as it continues the tradition of players being entertained by that conspicuous looking whiteboard in Duke Nukem Forever. RevGameClips hosts footage of one user drawing a headshot of Commander Shepard and it’s surprisingly well done. Never underestimate the commitment of a fan.
Okay so the last link wasn’t anything to do with Comic-Con, but this one shows exactly what the show is all about; pandering to fans. To promote Street Fighter x Tekken, both series producers, Yoshinori Ono and Katsuhiro Harada respectively, fought each another beat-em-up style in a series of increasingly bizarre challenges and the video of the bout was shown to a packed audience. The video is over eight minutes long, but it’s still worth watching as it proves that even though games are big business nowadays, there’s no reason why we developers can’t poke fun at themselves and do something great for the fans that adore them.
All of the links for this week’s selections are shown above and to the right. If you see anything worthy of a mention in this feature on your internet travels, be sure to send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org describing your selection and we’ll give you a shout out to recognise your contribution.
See you next week…
