SFS Big Bad Edition

Published on July 30th, 2011

Sometimes putting together this weekly feature of ours is surprisingly difficult, but for some reason over the past few days we’ve been constantly stumbling across some amazing games-related content on the internet. Some entries are enlightening, others are excruciatingly funny, but all of them will keep you entertained this Sunday morning.

Fleet Commander -

Why has nobody thought of this before? A touch-screen RTS take on Star War’s space battles! Obviously the 52-inch multi-touch LCD display is a tad more impressive than your average Nintendo DS or iPhone, nevertheless this tech demo needs to be made into a fully fledged game ASAP! Watching giant battleships shooting volleys of lasers at each other while tiny X-Wings and Tie Fighters face off in the black space in between will make your jaw drop. We promise…

Jennifer Hale Speaks -

One of gaming’s most prolific and well-known voice actors was interviewed by the fine folks at Rock, Paper Shotgun this week and as expected she seems like an absolute delight. Topics covered include how the voice of Bastilla, Commander Shepard, and occasionally Samus Aran got into the games industry, what she thinks of and how she was involved with Where on Earth is Carmen Sandiego – our favourite Saturday morning TV show!

Red Orchestra 2 Interview -

This delightful video is an important example of why games journalists shouldn’t drink copious amounts of alcohol before interviewing the president of a games studio. Eight drinks strong Blake Morse from GotGame interviews Tripwire Interactive’s John Gibson for six whole minutes and the footage is as compelling is as it is tragic! This is a car crash video in its most hilarious form, you know you should look away, but you can’t. Well, it was Blake’s delightfully sozzled birthday after all – more power to you buddy.

Amnesia The Dark Decent: Best Of Reactions Compilation

If the last video made you cringe, this one will make you wet your pants with laughter! Listening to people play what has to be the world’s scariest game is already a reliable YouTube tradition, but one enterprising Redditor has compiled the best clips together into one brilliant montage, joyfully enhanced by Edvard Grieg’s ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’; you’ll know the tune as soon as you hear it. Watch this video and enjoy your first uncontrollable laugh fit of the day.

All of the links for this week’s selections are shown above and to the right. If you see anything worthy of a mention in this feature on your internet travels, be sure to send an email to pcgzine@cranberrypublishing.com describing your selection and we’ll give you a shout out to recognise your contribution.

See you next week…
