Racing Game Real Life Drive

Published on December 9th, 2011

As game technology has gotten better and better, more of the motor racing fraternity has relied on simulations to hone the skills of real-life drivers, but never has a game alone determined who will get a drive in a proper racing championship – until now.

Yesterday the hard as nails racing sim was launched. The software, which is priced at £39.50, only boasts one car and one track; an accurate recreation of the car and Rockingham race circuit.

Not exactly the most enticing package in the world, especially when you compare it to Gran Turismo 5′s GT Academy initiative, but when you match it up with the opportunity to secure a fully funded seat in the real-life UK Renault Clio Cup, worth £100,000, that deal suddenly gets a lot more exciting!

“This is truly an exciting and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for someone to forego the usual climb into this level of motorsport and therefore makes it even more of a must-have for anyone with the skill to drive at this level,” explained multiple British Touring Car Championship winner, Jason Plato.

“I love finding and nurturing new talent and am really excited about tutoring and mentoring the winning driver in the lead up to the 2012 season.”

V1 Championship is being talked up as a unique opportunity to find the great driver of tomorrow and seeing as motor sport is a very expensive pursuit, the one-time payment doesn’t seem too bad of an investment.

“For years I have watched the gulf between the haves and the have-nots widen. Time and time again I have seen really talented drivers being passed over for those with the right connections or financial backing. I now look forward to developing and promoting genuine talent no matter what their social or financial background,” said Jay Marshall, co-founder of V1 Championship.

We’ve yet to sample the simulation in question, but it certainly seems like an exciting opportunity.

The way the competition will work is that the fastest ten drivers will gain free-entry to on-track qualifiers and from there the winner of the Clio Cup seat will be determined.

Seeing as the first meeting of the 2012 season will commence at Brands Hatch on March 31st, this competition won’t be open for long, so if you’re interested be sure to visit V1 Championships’ official website to learn more.

And if you want to see how exciting the Renault Clio Cup can be, we’ve handily linked an entertaining YouTube video which shows you exactly what you’ll be racing for.
