Are we really all in an obsessive race for photo-realistic graphics? Does having an epic storyline make for a more involving game? Or, could you strip away everything else, use a simple, if innovative mechanic, and end up with one of most enjoyable games of all time. Leaning with a drunken swagger and a flick of the V towards the latter, Guitar Hero was one of the most addictive games of all time, and yet, the idea was so simple. After all, who hasn't sat at home picking their air guitar to one of the world's greatest guitar solos? Taking that concept, adding in a plastic guitar, and challenging gamers to rock out to their favourite tunes was a stroke of genius, and Guitar Hero mastered it, first time. Turning the amp way past 11, Rock Band is the latest game from Guitar Hero creators, Red Octane, and the guys are ready to begin the series' evolution.
