Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction review for PS3Explosive platform-shooter heroes Ratchet and Clank are back with the aptly named Tools of Destruction: it's visually stunning and there are more explosions and objects sent flying per second then we've seen for a long time. The latest in Insomniac's platform-shooter series has crates, robots...hell, even *buildings* exploding into hundreds and thousands of tiny pieces. If you've ever wanted to see destruction on a mass scale, this is your game. Incredibly, the game manages to throw around an entire screen's worth of debris around with nary a pause to its buttery smooth, sixty-frames-per-second action. Even more impressively, take the flying fragments out of the equation, and the game's visuals will have you yanking your chin up from the carpet at regular intervals. The graphics have already been described as the closest thing yet to playing a Pixar cartoon, and we find it hard to disagree with that. From the cartoon Coruscant look of the opening planet Kerwan (featuring a daring escape at the outset that's one of the best showcases for PS3 so far) to the swampy, dinosaur planet of Sargasso, the vibrancy, detail and colour are absolutely second to none on the console. It's a shame it doesn't run in full 1080p to make it even more pin sharp, but we'll sacrifice that for the consistent frame rate.
