Stuntman Ignition review for PS3
Stuntman: Ignition is a
throwback to a time when
men were men and games
were so hard that they weren't ever
meant to be completed. Sure, it has
concessions to the modern era (a
five-strikes-and-you're-out system
replacing the original's punishing
approach of failing you for a single
error), but this is still old-school
tough stuff.
Starting out as a rookie stuntman,
you're soon called up by a British
director to do some daredevil driving
for a Dante's Peak-esque disaster
pic. Rather than easing you into
proceedings, this opener is as tricky
an introduction to a game as we
can remember. After the shout of
‘action', you need to speed through
the movie set, performing stunts
according to the helmer's bellowed
directions. So you might be called
to scrape the door of an oncoming
car, before drifting round a sharp
bend, leaping over some liquid hot
magma, and squeezing under a
falling tree as you
land. This might
not seem too hard, but often the directions come in so
late that you need to have ninja-like
reactions to hit the stunt markers.
