Exclusive Heavenly Sword interview for PlayStation 3
When it began
development four years
ago, people were quick
to try and force Ninja Theory away
from their dream of Heavenly
Sword being a next-gen only title.
With a lot of persistence, sweat,
and ogling of half-naked oriental
beauties (purely for research, we’d
imagine), the finishing line is finally
in sight, and the game is looking
to be breathtaking. We sat down
with Ninja Theory’s lead designer,
Tameem Antoniades, to get his
thoughts on the development of the
PS3’s first killer app.
One of the most striking things
about Heavenly Sword is its
incredible sense of style and
visual direction - from the
characters to the environments,
everything in the game has
a certain aesthetic flair. How
important was it to you that the
game had a unique graphical
direction?
We had a specific dreamy and
beautiful feel in mind, full of scale,
movement and colour. We wanted
to make a game that you could
look at and say, “Yes, that’s Heavenly Sword”. That’s what all successful
games and films manage to do and
we had that in mind from the very
beginning.
