Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix review for PlayStation 3
Recent advances in console technology have allowed developers to create ever more realistic virtual worlds. With this videogame tie-in to the latest film adventure of JK Rowling’s boy wizard, EA have certainly concentrated on realising the Potter universe in more vivid detail than ever before. The environment of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is stunning - it’s amazingly detailed, packed with interactive elements and is belief-beggaringly huge. Cleverly, EA have abandoned any kind of HUD, meaning that there’s nothing to distract you from your surroundings. With a dynamic third-person camera, it allows the developers to play up the beauty of the architecture, with some unusually cinematic angles showing off one of the most thoroughly captivating game worlds we’ve seen. From the top-down view of the moving stairways of the great hall, to the camera zooming out to show the colossal towers dwarfing the protagonists, it’s an absolute treat for any Potter fanboys and girls out there. Even if you’re not completely familiar with either the hero himself or any of his adventures, you can’t fail to be impressed by the recreation of the magical universe he inhabits.
