It’s the perennial tussle between
the two giants of the modern
game, and this year’s match-up
between Pro Evo and FIFA looks set
to be every bit as hard fought and
exciting as the real-life climax to
domestic league competitions.
The rivalry between EA’s polish
and glamour and the traditionally
better, more football-savvy Pro Evo
served by Konami doesn’t quite cook up the atmosphere of an
Old Firm derby day. But, this year
the posturing and mind games
that always seem to precede the
Christmas battle for your bucks
seems a little edgier, a little more
bitter than usual.
We spoke to Konami within
minutes of the shock early
announcement of Pro Evolution
Soccer 2008, and they seemed
slightly intrigued by recent
improvements to FIFA. They may
not be too worried, but their move
away from following PES 6 with PES 7 (which superficially seems less
up-to-date than FIFA 08 in the
same way Xbox 2 would have
sounded, well 1 less than PS3),
shows they are at least nervously
looking over their shoulder...
