Devil May Cry 4 review PS3Devil May Cry 4 is a welcome return for the PlayStation-centric series and its two sworn-enemy protagonists, Dante and Nero. Renowned for its difficult gameplay, Devil May Cry has never been a series for the faint-hearted, but this latest version is much more accessible than its predecessors, with beginners and more casual gamers accomodated with tutorials and easier modes for the first time. Die-hard gamers needn't despair though - despite all the online grumblings of some fans in the run-up to the game's release - Devil May Cry 4 has plenty of challenges for you too, such as the Devil Hunter mode. Yes, there's a twenty-minute initial install on the PS3 version of the game - but it comes with a host of pretty concept art bringing you up to speed with the story of the previous three games. Yes, this wait means you won't be looking at any loading screens for any length of time - though you're talking a difference of about two or three seconds max each time. And yes, it's the first time that this PlayStationcentric series has been released on another console. But the negligible differences between both versions make all this pretty moot. All you need to know is that it's a very, very good action game, whichever format you choose. The Devil May Cry series has always been renowned for its fearsome difficulty - so it's quite a shock to see both options for a casual-friendly Human difficulty mode and - horror of horrors - a tutorial. Naturally, this is the kind of thing that sends the ultra-hardcore into fits of rage, but ignore the internet bile - the change is a worthwhile one, making the game more welcoming without blunting its tough-as-nails edge. Seasoned DMC players will find the available Devil Hunter mode much more to their tastes. Click here to read the full Devil May Cry 4 review for the PS3 now! |
