Burnout Paradise preview PS3

Burnout Paradise preview for PS3

Spring 2008 will see the release of the latest update for the Burnout series of street-racing games. Burnout Paradise promises to mark a bit of a departure for the series, with much more freedom to roam the game's environment. In fact, you'll be able to drive wherever you want, roaming around until you find a race or event you want to take part in. The online mode is also being extensively improved, so there'll be lots of scope to challenge real-life opponents as well as taking on the AI challengers. Burnout Paradise preview for PS3

For the past few years, we've felt that the Burnout series has been getting a bit samey. Ever since Criterion were bought out by EA, the games seem to have simply slipped into the same groove that FIFA occupies, releasing yearly updates, with very little improvement. Peaking with Burnout 2, the series has been in need of a radical change for some time. With Burnout Paradise, it seems that change may finally be here.

So, what's the huge difference for Burnout Paradise? Put simply, it's freedom. Set in a completely free-roaming, seamless-loading environment, Burnout Paradise is the first Burnout game to let you simply drive where you want, when you want to, without having to pick an event from a menu, and wait for the game to load.

With the entire city open to you from the start (complete with every event, and crash junction), all you have to do to initiate an event is pull up at a traffic light, and hold the L2 and R2 buttons. The game then instantly drops you into whatever event you've picked, whether it's a crash junction, a takedown challenge, or street race - instantly.
