LOTRO Mines of Moria preview Lord of the Rings has been running for less than two years, with six free updates expanding the corner of Middle Earth (Eriador) where the game started. That's a whole mass of adventuring in Tolkien's world, and it has created a devoted audience. Here's a thought, though: they haven't even played any of their trump cards yet. The biggest icons in the books may have shown up, and there's charm in Rivendell and the stalking Nazgul, but the big adventure moments from the books haven't been seen yet. This, the first expansion pack, is Turbine playing the initial of their many aces. Moria, the enormous complex which Gandalf leads the Fellowship through is a quintessential moment from the book, which has resonated through popular culture. When people talk about Tolkien's influence on Dungeons & Dragons, they're really talking about Moria – a group of people heading underground to face challenges and find secret things.
