Wrath of the Lich King interview
After immersing ourselves
in the Lich King beta,
we caught up with Lead
Designer for World of Warcraft,
Tom Chilton and Production Director
Jay Allen Brack.
We're presuming that there's no
release date set yet?
Jay – Not yet… Tom's joke is that it'll
be the ‘next Tuesday after it's done'.
What features are going to be
added next into the beta?
Jay – Soon we'll release the level cap up to 80. We'll also open one
or more zones at the same time.
We've got Lake Wintergrasp, Storm
Peaks and Icecrown Glacier currently
unexplored at this point.
How long will it take someone
to reach level 80 from starting
in Northrend?
Tom – We're still in the process of
tuning levelling speed, although I
suspect it will be somewhat slower
than it was for getting from level 60
to 70, because we have substantially
more quest content in Northrend
than we ever did in Outland.
As a starting point, we tried
to mirror the 60-70 XP curve, but
people were getting to level 77
before the end of the second zone.
It was kind of silly that they were
getting close to level 80 without
really seeing around half of
the new continent.
