Earthrise preview

Find out this month all about forthcoming new MMO Earthrise, due out in 2009 and currently in development. Set in a post-apocalyptic world, Earthrise will find you threatened by both mutant creatures and an authoritarian state - there'll be plenty of PvP action as factions battle for territorial control. Although it's still a while off hitting the shelves, we've had a good look at Earthrise this month, and we bring you a full preview with all the latest news of the game in this issue of MMOZine.

The Third World War is over, but trouble is brewing on a smaller scale in the city of Sal Vitas on the sole remaining populated Pacific island of Enterra. The Continoma mega-corporation (established pre-war) runs the official government of Sal Vitas, new energy sources providing high-tech services such as cloning, nanotechnology and quantum engineering. It's a brave new world, but also an authoritarian one.

A rebel government, known as Noir, is not so happy that the Continoma corporation has the ultimate say over who dies forever, and who benefits from their selective consciousness-cloning program. It believes that an immortal elite is emerging as a god-like and not altogether benevolent upper caste. The Noir insurgents accuse Continoma of crimes against humanity and armed conflict threatens the only society to have survived the still-recent apocalypse of World War 3.

As an MMO, Earthrise features PvE and role-playing, but also features plenty of PvP combat, the constant battle for territorial control within non-secure areas of the island city. Almost every aspect of your character can be customised for combat, including attributes, skills, abilities and clothing, plus there's a unique crafting system to bolster items depending on allegiance.
