Pirates of the Burning Sea preview

Pirates of the Burning Sea preview

Stand by for a brand new MMORPG that takes place entirely in the human, earthly realm - not an elf in sight, and all the ships are sea-faring, not space-bound. In Pirates of the Burning Sea you'll take command of your own ship and you'll sail about running errands, completing quests and taking on other pirates, either in hand-to-hand or ship-to-ship combat. Pirates of the Burning Sea has massive potential both from an individual player perspective and as a long term MMORPG - read our preview now to find out more.

Pirates of the Burning Sea preview
Well push me down the gangplank and call me Jolly Roger, Pirates of the Burning Sea is looking pretty damned good. We'd not had much optimism for this largely ignored swashbuckler, but it's looking like there's plenty to commend it. The game is strongly reminiscent of Sid Meier's classic game, Pirates! Only this time you've got some lovely 3D towns to explore, some real-time sword combat scenes with massed groups of pirates and soldiers (who obviously HATE each other), and a huge world filled with dozens of players and a number of fiercely battling factions.

The core of the game is based around the development of your sea captain. Everyone has their own wayfarer and their own ship, which can be used from the off to battle both computer-controlled and real, human pirates on the high seas. Much of what you'll be doing will, of course, be based around running missions for the various characters you find in cities across the world - it's the classic quest structure we're so familiar with from games like Everquest and World Of Warcraft. The difference here is that you're heading out across wide blue oceans to trade, battle with pirate fleets and search for lost treasure.
