World of Warcraft Patch 2.2 reviewNew content for World of Warcraft is always welcome, and the arrival of a new patch is big news in Azeroth. The latest one, Patch 2.2, is a little different from past patches however - there's no significant new content, but rather the patch's main focus is the introduction of free, integrated voice chat. It's got the potential to be controversial - while it could make working in a group easier, it could also shatter some of the mystery of the game. Obviously voice chat isn't new to many players, particularly guild members, but the introduction of it for free across the board is quite a development - how will it go down with the WoW faithful? We've been trying it out - see how we got on with the voice chat in our review! ![]() World of Warcraft Patch 2.2 review Not so patch 2.2. Minor bug and balancing fixes aside – and the introduction of the Brewfest event – it has only one new feature, which doesn't affect game content at all, and merely integrates something that was already available by other means: voice chat. With free integrated voice chat now a standard feature in new MMOs, it's something Blizzard needed to do to keep up with the competition. Having said that, it changes WOW forever, and it'll be a matter of personal taste whether that change is for the better. Will you really want to talk to strangers while running battlegrounds and instances with them? It makes faster, better teamwork possible: but it also breaks your immersion in the world. It's hard to feel like an invincible, murloc-murdering hero of the cow men when speaking with a heavy cold and an embarrassingly posh accent. And many guilds' female heart-throbs will find the gifts and attention dry up when their gruff voices expose them as guys. Click here to continue reading our World of Warcraft Patch 2.2 review now! |
