Tabula Rasa preview

Tabula Rasa is nearly with us - this is huge news for all MMO fans to get excited about. Due out in November (it's currently in beta testing), this space-based MMO is the brainchild of Richard Garriott, aka Lord British, the man credited with inventing the MMO genre in the first place. The whole Tabula Rasa universe has been created from the ground up, and its scope is enormous. With some highly original new features and gameplay devices, Tabula Rasa is going to be a must-see for MMO enthusiasts, but will it be more successful than so many other ill-fated sci-fi MMOs? Tabula Rasa preview
The name Richard Garriott is synonymous with RPGs, and with good reason. The pioneer behind Origin games, Garriott went on to create the Ultima series, which, although it's recently died a somewhat understated death, was one of the most significant games of the decade. So successful, in fact, that Garriott has recently scraped together the pennies to book a flight to the International Space Station. After working on Lineage II, Tabula Rasa is Garriott's first original game in many years.

Where World of Warcraft had an immense gaming heritage to draw upon for its MMO, Tabula Rasa has nothing. Set in a completely original sci-fi universe, Garriott has locked himself away and created a world with the sort of scope and vision that would put George Lucas to shame. The plot revolves around a war with an alien race known as the Bane. When Earth is invaded by the alien menace, humanity turns on its tail and runs.
