Mythic will close servers on Wednesday, 18th December.
In a heartfelt address to the community, Mythic has announced that servers for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning will be closed on Wednesday, 18th December.
Producer Carrie Gouskos broke the news to community, thanking them for their support over the game’s previous five years in service.
“Games Workshop has cultivated a world class IP. We were lucky enough to play in their universe for nearly a decade, with five great long years live. However, like all things – our contract has come to an end,” the former Gamespot star explained.
“Both Games Workshop and Mythic agreed to part ways, despite how hard it is emotionally on us to let the game go. It has been a tremendous honor to work with Games Workshop and even though we may be parting ways, our relationship with them remains strong. And now, hopefully, because this may be the last thing I ever write about Warhammer, I’ll be allowed to acknowledge the existence of Chaos Dwarves. Or maybe not.”
“We look forward to seeing you on the battlefield… at least until the war is over… and once again, we thank you humbly for five amazing years.”
The full address is certainly worth a read, if only to learn more about Warhammer Online’s journey, missing features, failed experiments and touching community stories.
It’s always sad to hear of any MMORPG closing, especially one so beloved as WAR but at least players have an opportunity to say goodbye to one another and tackle any raids still on the to-do list as the closure date is still a few months off.
Thanks for the memories Mythic, it’s been fun. We’ll definitely be jumping back onto servers again before the WAR’s time is through.
