Another reason to head back to Funcom’s unique MMORPG this Friday.
Funcom has announced another double XP weekend for their one-time fee MMORPG, The Secret World.
The ‘Black Weekend Event’ begins on Friday, 14th June at 15:00 (16:00 GMT+1) and lasts until Monday. The way the double XP part of the weekend works is that each day players log into the game, they’ll have the option of claiming a potion from the in-game store which grants double XP for killing monsters during the subsequent 8 hours.
This tactic is different from traditional double XP weekends, as rather than just automatically doubling the progression of characters during combat, players need to interact with the in-game store, which is a rather clever way of getting people to check out the store and potentially buy some real cash items for their characters.
In addition to double XP potions, every player who logs onto servers during the event will have the opportunity to claim a pair of free ‘Black Heavy Buckled Boots’, again from the in-game store, and Black Bullion will drop in twice its usual amount whenever dungeon bosses are defeated, and other similarly impressive feats.
With RIFT recently going free-to-play and Guild Wars 2 holding its own in-game event live event this weekend it would be fair to say that MMO fans have a lot to sink their teeth in the coming days. That said, The Secret World still offers the best storytelling and puzzle design in the genre and if you’ve yet to check it out then frankly we feel sorry for you.
