NCsoft proceed to wrap up the original superhero MMORPG despite considerable opposition.
Last night NCsoft began issuing refunds to all players who had a VIP subscription to City of Heroes VIP past September 1st, as well as those who had purchased Paragon Points after August 24th, according to a post on the game’s official forums.
Automatic refunds are usually the final nail in the coffin for any online service, and even though NCsoft announced that City of Heroes would close at the end of this month, there has been a massive effort from the game’s community to save the MMO. Unfortunately it seem those efforts haven’t come to fruition quite yet, even though the online petition to save City of Heroes is currently sitting pretty at nearly 20,000 signatures.
“We want to personally share with you NCsoft’s sincere thanks to all of our fans that have spent time with us during the past eight years. We cannot reiterate how tough it was to make the final decision to close this wonderful chapter in our history. This has been a very special time for all of us, and we want to ensure we close this chapter with the best possible gaming experiences for everyone,” wrote City of Heroes community manager Zwillinger.
“To celebrate during the closing, we will host several of the popular events we have enjoyed in the past. Exact details and timing of these events will be shared shortly, as we are still nailing down specifics.”
We’ll let you know what exact events the remnants of Paragon Studios will be unleashing on players. To find out more details about the possibility of getting refunds, check out Zwillinger’s post here.
Here’s hoping a helpful third party swoops in to save City of Heroes from its unfortunate fate…
