Rakghouls invade SWTOR

BioWare unleash a surprise live event on subscribers.

After struggling to get implement the 1.2 Legacy update last week, BioWare has launched a new live-event inside Star Wars: The Old Republic without any fanfaire.

Instead the surprising announcement was delivered via an in-game news cast from the Imperial News Network warning players not to travel to Tatooine for fear of being infected by the transmogrifying Rakghoul virus.

For the unintiated, Rakghouls are a bit like zombies, just slightly more ferocious.

If you head to Tatooine’s Dune Sea you’ll see swarms of these creatures laying waste to regular NPCs, and when slain they’ll drop DNA samples which can be traded for new items including a Rakghoul mini-pet.

After being offline for an entire day last week during the implementation of the 1.2 update many SWTOR fans were unhappy with BioWare, even after they added another day’s worth of playtime to every subscribers account; here’s hoping there’s more surprises like this in the works so they can win them back some favour.
