The beta battle is over, now the real war begins!
The stage is set...
After being in the closed beta stage of development for almost a year, SOE’s free-to-play MMOFPS PlanetSide 2 has officially launched.
The sequel features the same persistent gameplay that was present in the first game, with players able to fight to claim ownership over certain quadrants with thousands of other combatants. This time three factions are being thrown in the fray though – Terran Republic, New Conglomerate and Vanu Sovereignty. All of which possess advanced sci-fi weaponry which unlocks as players earn experience for completing objectives and killing foes.
“PlanetSide 2 sets the new standard for shooters,” said John Smedley, president of Sony Online Entertainment. “With thousands of players fighting simultaneously across several beautiful, massive continents, the size and intensity of PlanetSide 2”
We wouldn’t say PlanetSide 2 sets a “new standard” for online shooters, but we were rather smitten with it when we played it earlier this month.
