Almost a year ago we saw the release of Wrath of the Lich King, the second expansion for World of Warcraft.

The expansion's story will soon come to an end with the release of patch 3.3, the final major content patch before the next expansion.

With tweaks, changes and a fight with some guy called Arthas, this patch promises to be the biggest, and most challenging yet.

The main update coming with patch 3.3 is the opening of Icecrown Citadel, bringing new five, ten and 25 man dungeons and raids.

Players will encounter new bosses, get their hands on new loot far superior to any items currently available, and face challenges the likes of which have never been seen before - including the Lich King himself.

The five man dungeon contains three wings - the Pit of Saron, Halls of Reflection and the Forge of Souls. Some of these are currently available for players to try out on the PTR.

In addition to the new dungeons and raids there's a whole host of changes and new features coming to the game.

In preparation for the launch of Cataclysm and a possible influx of new players, Blizzard have revamped the game's tutorial system, now adding images and improved text to greatly assist those new to Azeroth.

One big improvement is the Cross-Server Dungeon system. Similar to battlegrounds, players will soon be able to queue up for dungeons and join players from other servers - presumably in the same battlegroup as their server.

Hopefully this will be the end of many a wasted evening of "LF Tank/Healer, last spot?"

These are just some of the major changes, but the patch includes literally dozens of smaller details - more of which are being added with each build of the patch.

There's no word yet when this will hit live servers, but we'll keep you informed with any updates as they become available.
