Starting today, at 10am PST/6pm GMT, MMO gamers can boldly go where they have already been, but were not allowed to talk about.
Star Trek Online has now moved from Closed to Open Beta stage, and all current testers should have received e-mail with the details for the next stage.
Pre-order customers are also starting to receive their keys, if beta access was part of their pre-order bonus.
The Open Beta begins today at the above time, and will continue through until 26th January when the servers will be brought down, and wiped clean ready for Head-Start players on 29th January, four days before retail launch in the US.

"We have patched Holodeck back to ST.0.20100108a.0 for the time being to give you time to patch your client to the Open Beta build. If you played at all or patch up over the weekend to 8a.1 - then you will have a significant patch to get back to 8a.0. There is no way around this other than patching or doing a full client install.
You can also go the complete safe route and uninstall the game, then do a full client install of 8a.0 by using the new Downloader (found on the Beta - Download page)"
Given the number of players eager to get into testing, or just general playing, you can expect the servers to be under heavy load, so patching may be a slow process.
Along with the transition to Open Beta, the NDA has also been lifted, so expect more info soon.
