Since its launch in September, Aion has gone on to become a reasonably successful game, but that doesn't mean it is without its problems.

Levelling speed, and experience gain, has been a key area of complaint from players and it seems, from their latest announcement, NCSoft has at least been listening to some complaints.

"Greetings, Daevas!

We've heard your feedback that the experience curve can be steep in certain levels of Aion, and over the last couple of weeks, we've been evaluating how we want to address this issue to provide for smoother character progression.

While we're committed to providing a permanent solution, our long-term plans require development time.

As part of that process, we are implementing a temporary enhancement so that you can feel immediate benefits that we're excited to be rolling out this weekend."

This not only covers kill and quest XP, but also gathering and crafting too, which will certainly make a difference.

Once the three weekends have passed they aim to hold double XP weekends at least once, or twice, a month to make it easier for players to see what Aion has to offer for characters after level 35.

So, if you character has been falling behind a little recently, or you fancy rolling another character to add to your roster, these weekends will come in handy.

This is, of course, only a temporary solution to what is clearly a major issue with Aion.

NCSoft say they will be addressing the character progression issue with "a sizeable patch next year."

In addition to the double XP weekends there are a couple of permanent changes with this week's patch, including increased experience bonus from Energy of Repose for those between Level 20 and 44, and a reduced cost to Soul Healing for characters of all levels.

Here's hoping this is just the start of some major changes to resolve some of the issues Aion has.
