Whenever an MMO account gets banned there’s usually a very good reason, be it gold farming, botting or any other foul practice, but one thing that’s rarely thought of is the impact on the perpetrator.
One unfortunate former World of Warcraft player has pleaded with the internet, via Craigslist, to get his account reactivated and is offering $1000 as a reward.
"I got my WoW account banned yesterday during the archaeology bot ban wave," reads the advertisement posted last week.
"I wasn’t a gold farmer or seller, never bought gold. I just botted archaeology because it’s a boring profession. I’m looking for a WoW Account Admin (WoWAccountAdmin@blizzard.com) to unban my account for $1000 USD. No questions asked – your anonymity will be preserved."
Needless to say we very much doubt that anyone in Blizzard will take this individual up on his or her generous offer, but it does pose an important question. Just how much would you pay to get your progress back in your favourite MMO?
If you’ve invested half a decade of your life in your selection of main and alternative characters, what would you do to get them back? Sounds like a good premise for a Hollywood blockbuster to us.
Losing progress in any game is always a massive disappointment, but $1000? We’d like to think our priorities are in the right order.
Now if it was City of Heroes account, that’s a completely different story…
