Over the weekend it was announced that the world’s number one MMO World of Warcraft will get a fourth expansion.
Titled ‘Mists of Pandaria’, the expansion will introduce the pandaren as a playable race, adds the Monk as a playable class and a raised level cap of 90.
In addition to new areas to explore and dungeons and challenges to carry out, there will also be a new pet battle mode. Most MMOs have pets which need to be looked after in order to stick around, but this is the first time we remember being able to use them to fight other miniature companions, a la Pokemon.
“Players have been asking to see the pandaren in World of Warcraft since the game’s launch, and we’re excited to finally be able to give them a proper re-introduction to Azeroth,” said Blizzard’s CEO and co-founder, Mike Morhaime.
“In addition to the new playable race and class, Mists of Pandaria contains a huge amount of new content, and we’re looking forward to sharing more information about all of it at BlizzCon and beyond.”
Unfortunately no official release date was announced for the new expansion, but we suspect a final release window will be confirmed sooner rather than later.
