Today Funcom has announced that The Secret World will miss its intended April launch window, and will instead go live on June 19th.
The additional development time is so that Funcom can “maximize the potential of the game”, according to the official press release.
“Allowing for even more time to polish the game really shows just how much faith Funcom as a company has in ‘The Secret World’ and how committed we are to making it the best it can be,” explained creative director and senior producer, Ragnar Trnquist.
“The additional time will also allow us to carry out even more quality beta testing, and soon we will also be announcing several public beta events where hundreds of thousands of gamers will get to test the game prior to launch.”
Currently over 750,000 gamers have registered to be part of The Secret World’s beta, a number which far outweighs Funcom’s previous MMO Age of Conan at a similar stage in development.
Delays are incredibly annoying, there’s no doubt about that, but from what we’ve seen The Secret World is genuinely trying to do something new in the MMORPG space and the extra development time will only make the end product better as a result.
We had the privilege of visiting Funcom’s Norway offices last week, and even though we’re still under embargo you can rest assured knowing that this MMO is shaping up very well indeed.
