Do you remember when Star Wars was great? When the only war was between the Empire and the Rebellion, a time when driods and multi-lightsaber wielding cyborgs were only within the realms of fan faction.
So does SOE and to ensure the soon to be closing MMO Star Wars Galaxies doesn’t go out with a whimper, they’re asking players to return to servers in order to decide the fate of the Galactic Civil War.
“Beginning in September, the ongoing Galactic Civil War will escalate further as both sides seek to decisively win the epic conflict. In addition to all of the current Galactic Civil War activities, new events and contests will provide you with new ways to earn Galactic Civil War points and advantages you can use to help your side win,” reveals a post on the official SWG forums.
“At a time and date yet to be announced, but prior to December 15th, all Galactic Civil War points will be tallied by server. The side with the higher score will win the game, and the galaxy, for each server, as well as change the way the game will end and what happens in the final moments. Celebrations will be in order for those who win and, for the losers, let’s just say they’ll be going out with a bang.”
Neutral players can still opt out of the battle which allows them to host “shutdown events”, but who in their right mind would do that?
If you want to get involved you’ll have to act fast, as SOE are closing the subscription process for Star Wars Galaxies on September 15th. If you’re still subscribed at that time you’ll be able to play the game until its conclusion on December 15th without paying anything extra.
Player numbers will undoubtedly increase on this announcement and we’ll be ready to report on any updates regarding the Rebel Alliance’s ongoing struggles against the Galactic Empire.
