At 2011′s RuneFest event, Jagex revealed exactly how affective their war on RuneScape’s botters was when the company implemented its revolutionary ‘Clusterer Flutterer’ technology on October 25th and the numbers are staggering.
Massively was there to report the figures and they’re as follows:
- New botting accounts created every day: 100,000 – 200,000
- Gold-farming accounts banned on bot-nuking day : 1,500,000
- Accounts being banned per minute right now: 9,000
- Gold farming accounts banned since Tuesday: 7,700,000
- Accounts created from China and Korea per week – Old: 173,000, New: 953
- Decrease in player activity since bot-nuking day: 60%
- Banned accounts that were paid members: 10%
- Bots estimated to have been rendered ineffective: 98%
These numbers were revealed during the annual event’s keynote hosted by Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard and he seemed particularly happy with the performance of the new anti-bot software.
“We don’t want your computer to play with our computer, we want you to have fun with our community,” he said to a packed London venue.
The big figure that stands out to us is the revelation that RuneScape has experienced a 60% activity drop since the bot war began and hopefully this should lead to the economy in this free-to-play MMO to be a little bit fairer to players.
