Today the cutesy 2D Korean MMO Ragnarok Online makes the full transition from a subscription-based product to a full free-to-play experience.
All three servers – Ymir, Yggdrasil and Valkyrie – now allow players to sample the game without putting any money down, but committed fans can still elect for a VIP pay-monthly package which includes the following benefits:

* 1.5x Monster drop rate
* Increased Kafra Storage
* Less experience loss upon death
* Access to special areas and Buff NPCs
* Access to create characters on all 9 character slots.
Many premium MMOs have now made it possible for players to sample their delights for absolutely free. The most notable recent example is Lord of the Rings Online with makers Turbine Interactive boasting that revenue has tripled in the MMO since it allowed players to purchase in-game components whenever they needed them, be it new gear, abilities and adventure packs.
It is expected Ragnorak Online should experience a similar upturn in popularity.
