The producer of World of Warcraft, J Allen Brack, spoke of his stance on player housing today, stating that even though he and his team think about the feature whenever another expansion is being developed, it isn’t something which will be added to the world’s most prolific MMO any time soon.
"Player housing has been on the list of something we want to do even back before the original realm box first game release shipped – it was a feature that didn’t make that," Brack revealed to Eurogamer. "It’s one of those things we talk about every expansion – what would this look like in WOW?"
"I don’t necessarily think that it’ll ever actually happen for WOW because the thing that we want to do is… I don’t think it’s sufficient enough for us in WOW to just say, ‘Hey we have player housing – great.’ There’s got to be some reason to have that, there’s got to be gameplay behind that, stuff that happens."
Despite the lack of gameplay offered by player housing, it is still one of the most requested features by WoW’s 12 million odd subscribers. That said, Blizzard’s prize MMO is still many years away from closure, so there’s still plenty of time for stances to be reconsidered.
Cataclysm was the last expansion released for World of Warcraft – another two are believed to be in development.
