In an unprecedented move BioWare are asking fans to establish or join a guild for Star Wars: The Old Republic months before it is released.
The ‘Pre-Launch Guild Program’ allows players to find a group which suits their play-style (which they are supposed to know without yet playing the MMO) or start their own with the ability to reserve a name and start recruiting members.
All this is in aid of getting your guild into the game from day-one with an established set of members.
Obviously playing an MMO is an inherently social experience, but why guilds need to establish their existence this early is a mystery. Perhaps this is just a happy bonus for fans that want to register ‘The Hutt Clan’ handle anyone else, and maybe we shouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is expected to be released before the end of 2011 and you can register your guild by following the link on the right.
