Developers Turbine have announced that the Lone-lands content is now available to all free-to-play Lord of the Rings Online accounts.
"Residing just south-east of Bree-town and Staddle, the area known as the Lone-lands is home to several iconic locations including the Forsaken Inn and Weathertop – the very place Strider and his band of Hobbit friends thwarted a nearly-deadly Nazgl attack. It also offers more than 100 exciting quests to complete and 20 Deeds to earn for all players between levels 20 . For too long the denizens of the Lone-lands have dealt with vicious wildlife and nasty, cruel goblins. Fortunately, now is the time that all LOTRO players can embark on a heroic journey to save the Lone-lands and follow the Fellowship into even darker and more foreboding corners of Middle-earth!"
Previously, the Lone-lands was classed as a premium zone, and players needed to purchase the content from the Turbine store but now, as part of their commitment to make LotRO the best free MMO, it has been unlocked for all.
While this is a good move, and allows those on free accounts to access more content, it has angered some of the community who have recently purchased the content.
Whether we are likely to see more of the premium content made free is yet to be seen.
