In a recent earnings call, NCsoft has once again reiterated their efforts to get the highly anticipated MMORPG Guild Wars 2 released on consoles, as well as PC.
According to a transcript of the investors call, which can be seen at Guild Wars Insiders, a senior executive from the Korean publisher confirms that ArenaNet are currently exploring the possibility of a console release, which has subsequently led the internet to explode with reports suggesting that the PC-exclusive is now definitely heading to other platforms. That is not the case.
Thankfully Guild Wars 2′s community team lead has made ArenaNet’s stance clear:
“We stated multiple times in public that we have a small team working on a console version, but that we are fully dedicated to make the most kickass game for PC” stated the ever cheeky, Martin Kerstein.
The crucial word there is “small” which suggests that ArenaNet have yet to commit wholesale to a console version of their fantasy sequel.
Of course it’s also worth bearing in mind this agreement from way back in 2007 when NCsoft agreed to produce future MMO properties for use on Sony’s PlayStation 3.
Could Guild Wars 2 be one of them? We’ll have to wait and see…
