Square Enix has announced that the critically divisive MMO Final Fantasy XIV has been delayed on PS3, with the PC version getting a further trial extension in order to repay existing owners for their persistence and patience as new functionality is introduced.
A humble post on the official website for Final Fantasy XIV made fans aware of the news, in addition to the development that Naoki Yoshida has taken over the role of producer and director for the MMO.
"We realize time is of the essence and are fully determined to provide our customers with quality service. It is because of this that we ask our customers to be patient until we are able to confidently present them with a concrete plan outlining Final Fantasy XIV’s new direction. The free trial period will be extended until that time," revealed the latest official announcement.
"Regarding the PlayStation 3, it is not our wish to release a simple conversion of the Windows version in its current state, but rather an update that includes all the improvements we have planned. For that reason, we have made the difficult decision to delay the release of the PlayStation 3 version beyond the originally announced date of March 2011."
PC players are currently experiencing a multitude of issues with Final Fantasy XIV, so the PlayStation 3 version’s delay isn’t necessarily the bad news it appears to be, as hopefully the developers will now have the extra time they need to create a better product.
We’ll let you know when a revised release date is announced.
