The formerly subscription-based MMO Fallen Earth has been acquired by GamersFirst and will adopt a free-to-play model in the near future.
Massively broke the news last night, thanks to a conference call with a selection of GamersFirst big-wigs and Fallen Earth’s lead designer Marie Croall.
The new revenue model for Fallen Earth will be split into four tiers – Free, Silver, Gold and VIP. The first option allows players to sample the game from beginning to end without earning any reward points, the second will boast a smaller sub price than $14.99 a month, but will provide the same content, with the third and fourth options offering extra money off items purchased via the in-game store and other perks.
Further details can be found via Massively.
It’s clear that the writing has been on the wall regarding this kind of transition for some time, and in our opinion this new era in Fallen Earth’s cycle should allow it to reach new levels of success and popularity.
A lot of factors are still to be decided, but we’ll keep you updated on further developments.
