Judging from the latest statistics released by Sony Online Entertainment, EverQuest II’s transition to a free-to-play model has been a great success.
The organisation’s president John Smedley took to Twitter earlier today declaring his excitement with a fresh batch of statistics to commemorate the relaunch of the MMO which began life in 2004.
“We are seeing some amazing growth in EQ2. 40% increase in daily logins since going f2p. 300% increase in new players.” revealed SOE’s head honcho.
“And 200% increase in Item sales. Plus we have added a lot of new subs. All during the time that some really good competition hit the market.”
The competition which Smedley so readily referred to is Star Wars: The Old Republic which just before last Christmas.
Due to the required money and time investment associated with any MMORPG, they often have considerably longer life-spans than games from any other genre. That said, EverQuest II is only two years shy of its tenth birthday and if this momentum continues there’s no reason why it can’t reach that momentous milestone.
