Account security is always important for MMO players, and Blizzard tends to take a serious stance on the subject. This year, however, there is an added incentive to be more secure with your account as Blizzard has announced the Core Hound Pup Adoption campaign.
One of the main security systems in place for Blizzard accounts, at least on the players side, is the Battle.net authenticator (or the mobile authenticator, for those with compatible handsets) and Blizzard have given all authenticator owners a free in-game Core Hound pet for a while.
Now, your little Core Hound could win you a nifty prize in Blizzard’s year-long competition for 2011.
"We’re kicking off a Core Hound Pup adoption campaign and we need your help! Simply send us funny, cute, or just plain epic screenshots featuring your fiery two-headed buddy. We’ll be picking two of the most memorable images each month in 2011 and awarding the winners with a brand new iPad."
For those who already have authenticators, and the pet, you can get snapping those screenshots right now, and submit them via the link on the right.
If you don’t yet have an authenticator linked to your Battle.net account, you can pick one up from the Blizzard store for the fairly low price of £6.29 / $6.50, or you can get the mobile version for free on iPhone/iPod or 50p on other supported handsets.
Although this competition may see a spike in users purchasing Authenticators just for the chance of winning an iPad, it is still good to see Blizzard encouraging people to make their accounts more secure.
The Core Hound Adoption campaign will run every month throughout 2011.
