The wait is over for Champions Online fans, and those wanting to check out the game, as the Free-to-play version is now live.
Champions Online: Free for All has officially launched this evening, and despite some issues with overloaded login servers, things seem to have gone quite smoothly.
The standard game is free to play for all, allowing players to level from 1 to 40 with restricted power set characters, but those who opt to pay $14.99 a month for the gold membership will unlock all of the games existing content, including custom power sets, and a monthly bonus of 400 points to spend in the store.
So, if you fancy yourself as a bit of a hero, head on over to the Champions Online website (link to the right) to read the FAQ and download the client.
In other news, from the Champions Online camp, there has been a change to the account system and all Cryptic accounts will transition to an Atari account, granting access to Atari’s suite of account services.
There will be no adverse effects to your game access for any Cryptic-created title, but you may notice a few changes.
Cryptic Points will now become Atari Tokens, following the merge with Atari’s brand-wide currency, with no loss of value. If you currently have 500 Cryptic Points sat in your account, you will have 500 Atari Tokens.
These points can then be used across all Atari titles that have a cash shop, giving you a bit more freedom with your in-game purchases if you play more than one Atari game.
