Cataclysm today

Published on December 6th, 2010

The wait is almost over.

In a little less than 15 hours (or 24 in the US), : will be released and playable on live servers.

First announced in August 2009, at the annual Blizzcon convention, the third expansion to World of Warcraft brings players back to a shattered version of Azeroth following the return of the dragon aspect Deathwing.

Two new playable races will become available, with worgen for Alliance and goblin for the Horde, the new Archaeology profession and an increase in the level cap to 85.

Of course, this is information that most of you already know, and you are no doubt eagerly awaiting the launch of the expansion so that you can get back to levelling your character, or make a new one, and hit the new dungeons.

For the first time, Blizzard are offering a digital upgrade of the expansion, allowing players to start playing the moment it goes live at midnight (GMT 1), but for those wanting to get their hands on a physical copy of the game they are holding a number of midnight launch events in the US, Europe, Canada and Taiwan.

While many stores will no doubt have their own midnight openings, Blizzard will be attending a select few, with developers in store to sign copies of the game for those queuing, including Greg ‘Ghostcrawler’ Street at the London GAME store.

So, with the launch less than a day away, now is the time to get those last minute preparations done. Why not check out our ’10 things to do before Cataclysm’ post (link on the right)- things have changed a little since The Shattering hit two weeks ago, but some points still apply.

See you in Hyjal, folks.
