K2 Network, the publisher behind the free-to-play service GamersFirst, has purchased APB for £1.5 million, according to a report on GamesIndustry.biz.
The online project created by now defunct Scottish developer Realtime Worlds was touted as costing $50 million to develop over five years, so this could be viewed as a shrewd investment by the little known MMO publisher.
At the moment it is unclear what exactly K2 Network want to do with their new acquisition, but it is conceivable that APB could abandon its subscription based revenue system and adopt a free-to-play model, in accordance with the rest of GamersFirst’s portfolio.
An official announcement is expected next week, but until then gamers should feel satisfied that APB will be back in some form in the near future.
