NCSoft has sent word that the forthcoming Aion 2.5 update will increase the functionality of pets and allow them to automatically pick up loot, apply consumables and turn inventory junk into valuable new riches.
In addition there will be thirteen new pet designs added to the game, as well as a new management screen which allows new social interactions with your fluffy bundle of joy.
In total, there will be seven different pet skills on offer and they are all detailed below:
Companion – Follows players around endlessly.
Signal – Alerts players to when an opposing faction is in the vicinity.
Fortune – Eats junk and has the ability to transform items into metals, dyes and weapons.
Pack – Can store additional items for players.
Buff – These tiny tacticians will hold onto consumables and will auto-apply them to players when their other buffs end.
Loot – Automatically loots enemies when they are defeated and adds their dropped wares to their owner’s inventory.
Purebred – Rare pets which often have more than one of the above functions.
Even though some pet functionality is changing, how to procure them has remained the same, with players simply needing to visit either the official NCSoft store or an in-game Pet Merchant.
You’ll still have to feed and pay attention to your pets to get the most out of them, but it’s good to see the walking collectibles now have a real purpose and meaning to any budding adventurer.
We suspect pets will become even more popular once the 2.5 update hits Aion’s public servers on May 25th.
